The variety is characterized by rapid germination and the ability to form a dense stand. It belongs to crops with a short utilization period; the westerwoldicum variety is capable of flowering in the year of sowing without prior vernalization.

The variety is distinguished by high growth intensity. Like many other Italian ryegrass varieties, it may show sensitivity to harsh winters and a risk of winterkill.
