The variety Alces is a tetraploid form of Italian ryegrass. The plant possesses a high yield potential and is suitable for use in the diets of high-producing dairy cows. Analysis of the forage quality shows a specific ratio of sugars and fiber.

The variety shows resistance to fungal disease infection, including rust (Puccinia).
