Bellem is a diploid variety of Italian ryegrass, which is regularly used in European scientific publications as a control variety when conducting breeding and agrotechnical trials.

Morphologically, the variety is characterized by a medium expression of traits, including plant width after vernalization and the number of spikelets. Research shows the variety's sensitivity to growth regulators, excessive dosages of which can negatively affect seed uniformity and spike length.
