The variety is tetraploid (4n) and was developed based on the Abundant variety. Compared to it, the Andes variety demonstrates higher dry matter yield, increased resistance to rust and leaf spots, as well as better cold tolerance.
The plant is characterized by early and intensive growth, while providing good forage quality. The crop is used for grazing, hay and silage production, and as a cover crop for soil erosion control. The variety is suitable for feeding cattle, sheep, goats, and horses.
The variety is listed in the national registry — its seeds are authorized for sale in this country.
