The Camel variety is a diploid perennial ryegrass of early-mid maturity, the heading period of which occurs approximately 3 days earlier than the reference variety Nui. The starting material for selection consisted of plants from a region with low rainfall, which ensured the variety's high survival rate in an arid environment.
The plant belongs to 'endophyte-free' varieties, which eliminates the risk of 'ryegrass staggers' in livestock. The variety is intended for creating pastures, tolerates rotational grazing well, has good sward density, and provides high-quality forage in the winter-spring period.
For agrotechnical operations, a seeding rate of 15–25 kg/ha is recommended. The variety is intended for regions with a rainfall level from 600 mm, while it shows the ability for active regrowth after grazing in conditions where other ryegrass varieties are less resistant.
