The Melpro variety is a diploid (2n) perennial ryegrass. The plant belongs to the late-maturing group, characterized by rapid development in spring and good persistence and longevity. At the heading stage, plants reach a very great height, whereas during the spring regrowth period, the height is medium. The thousand kernel weight of the variety is 1.52–1.66 g.
The variety possesses medium resistance to rust and high forage value. It is used as a component of forage grass mixtures, including in combination with legumes, for livestock grazing and forage harvesting.
