The variety was derived from the selection of ten parental clones selected in nurseries in the spring of 1985. Mondial is classified as a turf-type variety and differs from forage varieties in the formation of fine leaves.
A key characteristic of the variety is high sward density, reaching 15 000 shoots per square meter in trials. The variety has the ability to recover quickly after damage, and its morphology is directed towards the development of aesthetic appeal, tillering, and turf density.
