The Mongita variety is a diploid (2x) perennial ryegrass. In agronomic studies, it is classified primarily as a forage type, but it is also found in grass mixtures for landscaping and lawn purposes.

In comparative trials, dry matter yield was recorded at 75 dt/ha. The variety is characterized by a medium heading date and was used in scientific programs for genomic typing for the purposes of plant variety protection. Currently, the variety may be absent from the current official registers of a number of countries.
