The variety was obtained through the selection of 53 plants possessing traits of late maturity and resistance to stem rust. It is intended for creating sports surfaces, golf courses, turf production, and overseeding of bermudagrass lawns.

The plant possesses high wear tolerance and the ability for rapid rooting. It is characterized by late heading, dark green color, and fine leaf blade width. An improved version, Salinas II, exists, adapted to conditions of high salinity and resistant to leaf spot.
