The Superstar GL variety (turf type) is distinguished by early spring regrowth, dark green color, fine to medium leaf texture, and a dense sward. It is a low-growing bunchgrass with a height of 20 to 60 cm, selectively bred for resistance to trampling and diseases, such as gray leaf spot.

In forage production, the name "Superstar" is used to describe high-yielding varieties with good cool-season growth and high nutritional value. In agronomic publications, there is no single variety recorded as being universal for both forage and turf purposes.
