The Talpa variety is a subject of comparative trials in Swiss forage crop agronomic research. It is included in the inventory of the Swiss National Plant Genetic Resources Bank, Agroscope.

In scientific publications, the variety is considered as a diploid or tetraploid type. During trials, measurements of dry matter yield and analysis of nutrient composition, including fiber content, protein, and energy density, are conducted.
