The variety was obtained by crossing populations of perennial ryegrass and hybrid ryegrass. The plant possesses a dense, leafy habit, resembling perennial ryegrass in appearance. The leaves have a lighter green shade and a lax structure; auricles often clasp the stem. A small percentage of spikelets may have awns. Flowering occurs later than in perennial ryegrass, but earlier than in one of the hybrid parent varieties.
The ryegrass is used as a pasture crop, valued for its productivity in cool weather and high palatability. The variety exhibits resistance to the stem weevil and contains the endophyte Acremonium lolii. Compared to perennial ryegrass, it provides greater productivity in the autumn period, however, it is characterized by slower establishment.
