The variety was developed through selection from hardy germplasm collected in the southern part of the South Island of New Zealand. It belongs to the long-rotation hybrid category and is classified as a diploid variety.
The plant is characterized by excellent year-round growth and high forage quality, often exceeding the performance of perennial ryegrass under similar conditions. It features excellent disease resistance and high persistence in intensive grazing systems.
