The variety is a product of the breeding program of the French nursery Georges Delbard. The Akane variety was used as one of the initial components in its development. The apple fruits are characterized by a very dark red skin color.

The variety belongs to the dessert group. Research data mentions it in the context of trials to assess the promise of varieties and to study resistance to pests, in particular to the Japanese beetle.
