The variety is identified with the old English variety 'Flower of Kent'. The original tree in Woolsthorpe was damaged by a storm in 1814, after which it survived by rooting from the trunk; modern saplings are obtained through vegetative propagation of the descendants of this tree.

The fruits are intended for culinary use, have a green color with a red blush, and are pear-shaped or ribbed. The flesh is white, coarse-grained, and mealy. Harvesting is carried out in October, and the fruits are suitable for use from November to January.

The plant is triploid, therefore it requires pollination from varieties in flowering group B or C for fruiting. The variety is characterized as productive and regularly bearing, with tree height depending on the rootstock used.
