Various local ecotypes are grouped under this name, most often associated with the Melo Melella or San Giovanni varieties. The trees are distinguished by limited growth and an early ripening period, which occurs in mid-July.

The fruits are small, flattened in shape, and covered with a smooth, waxy yellow skin without a blush. The tender white flesh has average taste qualities. Due to low keeping quality, the apples are intended for fresh consumption immediately after harvest or for making beverages.

These forms originate from central regions of Italy, such as Abruzzo, Umbria, Tuscany, Emilia-Romagna, and Lazio. Currently, they are of interest as genetic resources and are often cited as being under threat of extinction.
