The Russian variety «Викинг» is an autumn apple with a vigorous fast-growing tree and an obversely pyramidal crown. Fruits are large, weighing 140–170 g, round-conical in shape, have greenish-yellow skin with heavy russeting, and sweet juicy flesh. The variety is self-incompatible, resistant to scab, powdery mildew, and codling moth; fruits are prone to dropping.

The American variety «Viking» is a complex hybrid with medium-sized fruits. Fruit color is green with a dark red or purple blush, flesh is cream or white, with a sweet-and-sour taste. The variety is susceptible to scab; fruits have a short storage life and are prone to rapid browning when exposed to air.
