The variety is traditional for the Kozjansko region in Slovenia and is also known by the names Rdeča škrbotavka and Štrudlovka. The trees are high-growing and reach a height of 4 to 6 meters.
The ripening period occurs from August to early September, with the fruits ripening gradually over the course of a month. The fruits have an elongated-conical or oval shape, sometimes with slight ribbing. A red color with dark stripes appears over the greenish-yellow skin.
The flesh of the fruits is crisp and juicy, possessing a tart taste and aroma. The apples are used both fresh and in culinary applications, being especially popular for making strudels.
