The plant is a liana with a vining growth habit and stems that are slightly woody at the base. The stems are light green in color, turn light brown at the base, and acquire a purplish-red hue at the tips. The leaves are a rich green color and are glossy.
The flowers are funnel-shaped, dark red according to the RHS 46A classification, and about 5–7.5 cm in size. The flowering period is prolonged, covering the spring-summer season.
The variety is intended for cultivation in containers, hanging baskets, or in open field in warm climates; when container-grown, it requires supports. The plant is sensitive to root waterlogging, which can cause rot. It belongs to thermophilic crops with a winter hardiness zone of 10a.
