The name Tamarak, also encountered as Tamarac, is a synonym for the mango variety Tropica. This name is often incorrectly associated with the variety, although it actually denotes the Tamarak Mango Estate, which is engaged in mango cultivation in the Western Cape region.
Fruits of this variety are intended for export, and are also processed into puree and dried products. The estate uses biological pest control methods for tree cultivation, and more than half of the plantings are covered with special shading nets to prevent sunburn.
The right is granted for a limited term: propagation of the variety requires a license from the rights holder.
