The Tápió variety has an origin associated with the breeding center in the Hungarian town of Tápiószele. In historical agricultural studies, the variety was considered in experiments on growing forage crops in areas of drained ponds.
In scientific publications, the variety is used as an object for comparative biochemical analysis. During the studies, it was found that the level of arabinan content in the Tápió variety exceeds that of the Plato-Rhizo variety, while no significant differences in the level of lignin and chlorophyll were observed between a number of studied varieties.
