Dupnitsa 126 belongs to the group of Oriental small-leaf varieties. It was developed by specialists at the Institute of Tobacco and Tobacco Products in Bulgaria and is used as raw material for the tobacco industry.

The variety possesses distinct resistance to black shank (Phytophthora parasitica var. nicotianae). In scientific studies, it is often used as an object for genetic research on quantitative traits such as leaf size, leaf count, and total plant height.
