The variety originates from the Camargue region and is an improved type of aromatic rice. It is characterized by a specific aroma reminiscent of popcorn, which is due to the presence of the compound 2-acetyl-1-pyrroline (2AP).

In scientific publications, the variety is classified as salt-sensitive. Experiments show that exposure to salt stress leads to a decrease in yield, although under moderate salinity, the concentration of the aromatic compound 2AP in the grains can increase.
