The CL28 variety is part of the Clearfield line, which allows for the use of specific herbicides to control weedy rice. The variety belongs to the B-type long-grain rice group.

Product quality may vary depending on seasonal climatic conditions; specifically, increased grain fragility during processing is possible due to extreme heat. In studies, the variety is mentioned in the context of susceptibility to rice blast caused by the fungus Magnaporthe oryzae.
