The variety was developed by crossing Wells and CL161. The plant belongs to the semi-dwarf group and is characterized by a mid-season growing period, with maturity timing similar to CL161 and Cypress.

The cultivation technology involves the use of imidazolinone herbicides, to which the variety is resistant. The plant exhibits good lodging resistance and high seed germination energy.

The variety is susceptible to blast, panicle blight, and sheath blight. Culinary qualities correspond to long-grain varieties grown in the southern United States; grain size and weight are comparable to the LaGrue variety.
