The variety was obtained as a result of many years of research and the restoration of old rice varieties. It is classified as Lungo A, though due to the unique properties of the grain, it is sometimes designated as Fuori Tipo. The crop is grown primarily in the Vercelli province of the Piedmont region in Italy.
The grains of the variety are distinguished by their large size and uniformity. When cooked, the rice actively releases starch, which makes it possible to achieve a natural creamy structure for risotto without adding large amounts of fat. The grain retains its shape and does not overcook, possessing a distinct taste.
