The variety belongs to long-grain types and is classified as japonica. The plant is tall, which caused its tendency to lodging. The variety possessed good milling characteristics and was valued for its taste qualities, tenderness of the cooked grain, and good appearance.

In the period from the late 1960s to the mid-1980s, the variety was an important genetic material for breeding programs aimed at increasing milling yield and reducing grain chalkiness. In modern agricultural practice, it has been replaced by semi-dwarf varieties with earlier maturity dates and high resistance to lodging and diseases.
