In agronomic research, the Strymonas variety is used as a standard for comparative analysis of rice breeding lines. Scientific data on the variety includes grain quality parameters, such as its vitreousness, linear dimensions, and milling yield, as well as an analysis of the correlation between grain yield and its breakage.

Outside the scientific sphere, the name Strymonas is used to designate a regional 'Carolina' rice variety grown in the Strymon River valley. This product is valued for its culinary qualities and is traditionally used in Greek cuisine.
