The herbaceous peony hybrid Cologne is distinguished by an early flowering period and vigorous growth with an upright habit. One or two buds measuring 4–5 cm usually form on the plant's stem. The flower has a diameter of about 16 cm, the petals are a bright pink shade, and the outer ones are ruffled.

The variety has a weak fragrance. The plant is capable of producing pollen and setting seeds; the carpels have dark pink stigmas.
