The variety «Bence» is the result of crossing varieties belonging to «Group A» within the framework of Hungarian breeding programs. The plant was created for industrial cultivation as medicinal raw material.

The variety was used in experiments to study the alkaloid content in various parts of the plant, including leaves and capsules, as well as in studies of winter hardiness under winter and spring sowing. Detailed agronomic characteristics of the variety are absent in open publications.
