The variety is classified as industrial and is grown for the needs of the pharmaceutical industry. The morphine content in the dry capsules of the Botond variety varies in the range of 1.5–2.5%.

The variety is adapted to the climatic conditions of Central Europe. In scientific literature, Botond is often mentioned as a high-morphine strain used in genetic research and the breeding of dual-purpose varieties.
