Variety description

10 August 2026

Stiense boon is a tall-growing climbing plant that reaches a height of 2–3 meters and requires supports. The variety belongs to the red-flowered types of runner bean. The seeds of the plant have a purple color with black speckles. As with other representatives of the species, the cotyledons remain underground during germination.

The plant has a vigorous vegetative mass, due to which it was historically used as a windbreak to protect other crops. A parchment layer is present in the pod valves. Both young green beans and mature seeds are suitable for food.

Sowing is carried out in late April or May. Harvesting of young beans is possible in June–July, and seed harvesting in September–October. The variety is relatively cold-tolerant, which allows it to be grown in the Dutch climate.
