The plant is climbing, characterized by vigorous growth and reaching a height of 1.8 to 3 meters. The vegetation period until technical ripeness of the pods is 51–60 days. The variety is distinguished by good tolerance to cool summers.

The fruits are pods 13–18 cm long, sometimes up to 25 cm, containing large kidney-shaped seeds. The variety is considered versatile: young pods can be consumed whole, and mature seeds are used as grain beans. The variety is also grown as an ornamental plant for vertical landscaping.

The name «Spagna bianco» often acts as a group name for various local ecotypes of large-seeded white runner bean, rather than as a unique hybrid.
