Gloire de Saumur is an heirloom French variety of Phaseolus vulgaris belonging to the green bean group. The variety is characterized by a reduced lignin content in the pod walls, which makes the young green pods suitable for use as a vegetable product.
Data on plant morphology are contradictory: in various sources it is classified as either climbing or bush, which may be due to the presence of different lines of the variety. In modern conditions, it is used more often as an object for genetic research and breeding, including the study of interaction with the Bean common mosaic virus.
