The Merveille d'octobre variety is a vigorous dwarf plant. The pods are large, green in color, sometimes with a slightly spotted appearance. Upon full maturity, the seeds reach a size of 11x6 mm, have a kidney shape, and a striped marbled pattern.
This variety is late-maturing, with sowing recommended from mid-May to mid-June. The plant is considered reliable, but shows varying degrees of resistance to diseases: resistance to anthracnose and virus 1 has been noted, with possible susceptibility to bacteriosis.
Merveille d'octobre is considered an heirloom variety and is often identified with the Idaho Refugee variety. The purpose of the variety is universal: it is consumed in its young stage as green beans or harvested at the stage of full maturity for grain.
