This variety is a local ecotype that is adapted to the climatic conditions of the Lamon plateau in Italy. The name is historically associated with the legend of the introduction of bean seeds from Spain in 1532.
The plant belongs to the borlotto type, which is characterized by striped pods and seeds. The seeds have an oval shape and are colored with wine-red stripes. The beans are used both fresh and dried, traditionally used in soups and salads.
