The Stortino di Lucca variety is an autochthonous landrace that historically formed in the province of Lucca as a result of long-term selection by local farmers. The plant is of the climbing type (rampicante) and is classified as a conservation variety.

In agronomic literature, the variety is mentioned in the black-seeded bean group and is sometimes found under the synonym Stortino a seme nero. The crop is used as a traditional vegetable product, though specific data on the maturity group or exact biometric indicators of the plant are unavailable.

In Italian conditions, sowing is practiced from April to July, and harvesting is possible from May to October depending on planting dates. The variety is included in the list of traditional legume crops protected under regional biodiversity conservation programs.
