The variety is a dwarf coniferous shrub or tree with a dense conical crown shape. The plant is characterized by a moderate growth rate, reaching a height of about 1 meter in 10 years and up to 1.5–2 meters at maturity.

The needles have a silvery-blue hue; however, the variety is prone to reversion, where patches of green needles may appear on the branches. The variety possesses high winter hardiness, corresponding to USDA zones 2–8, but can be sensitive to bright spring sun.

The plant is used for ornamental purposes in small gardens, container gardening, and formal landscape compositions. In trade catalogs, it is found under the name «Alberta Blue».
