Plants are tall-growing, reaching 150–180 cm in height, requiring support. Pods are large, wide, and succulent, 11–12 cm long and 2–3 cm wide. Consumed whole along with the pod walls due to the absence of coarse fibers.
The variety matures somewhat later than early varieties and possesses high yield potential. Pods retain a tender consistency for a long time without becoming tough. Intended for fresh consumption, boiling, frying, as well as for freezing and canning.
The variety appeared in Norway at the end of the 19th century as a result of folk breeding and mass selection. The name was historically applied to a number of different sugar pea lines, therefore characteristics may vary slightly.
