The variety belongs to the group of peas for dry grain production used for fodder purposes, as well as for processing into protein and starch. The plant is of the 'leafless' type, where leaflets are replaced by tendrils due to afila and stst mutations, which leads to a significant reduction in the size of the stipules.
The plant is capable of self-support due to the intertwining of tendrils, which ensures high resistance to lodging. Structural features limit the photosynthetic surface, which is why the variety requires high seeding density to obtain a sufficient yield.
The variety is important as the first example of introducing the 'leafless' trait into agricultural practice. Its genetic material has been actively used in the breeding of new pea varieties around the world, although as an independent commercial variety, it has been superseded by more productive semi-leafless forms.
