The Marktveroveraar variety (also known as Market Conqueror or Mechelse Krombek) is a tall plant reaching 150–200 cm in height. It is a climbing-type plant, which makes it prone to lodging and requires the installation of supports in the form of netting or branches.
The variety forms large curved pods with round seeds. The grains have a characteristic pea flavor; when harvested in a timely manner, they are tender and juicy, but become mealy in taste if allowed to overripen. The harvest is suitable for fresh consumption and for freezing.
