The Marquis variety belongs to the 'af' (afila) leaf type, where standard leaflets are replaced by tendrils to increase lodging resistance. Plants reach a height of 65–70 cm.
The variety possesses high resistance to Fusarium wilt (race 1) and intermediate resistance to Pea mosaic virus and downy mildew. In genetic resource collections, the variety is mentioned as a source of resistance to Ascochyta blight.
