The variety is classified as a conservation variety and represents a folk selection. Historically in Sweden, this name was applied to large-seeded varieties valued as a food crop for humans, in contrast to smaller types intended for fodder purposes.
In studies of pea genetic resources in Arctic conditions, the variety is noted for a long growing period until the onset of flowering, requiring the accumulation of 656 degree-days. In some Swedish dialects, the variety name is used as a collective term for traditional local pea types.
