The variety «Opal» was included in the official variety lists of a number of countries and was used for agricultural and turf purposes. Within the framework of international trials of Poa pratensis varieties in the period 1990–1995, it was classified as a variety not belonging to the main variety types studied at that time.

In studies of the early 2000s, the variety was mentioned in the context of trials for the level of resistance to cereal viral disease pathogens. Detailed agronomic characteristics of the variety in available publications are limited.
