The designation C8 refers to a vegetative rootstock bred within the breeding programs of the Research Institute for Fruit Growing in Pitești-Mărăcineni. In scientific literature, it is more often referred to by the code IP-C8 and is used in production trials as a rootstock for sweet cherry grafting.
The term "vegetative rootstock" indicates its clonal origin, which ensures the uniformity of tree characteristics in the orchard. In available publications, there is no information confirming that the C8 rootstock is a hybrid of cherry plum and peach.
