The variety was bred at the Fruit Research Institute in Cacak, Serbia. In international and German-language literature, it is found under the name Cacaks Späte, whereas in Serbian scientific terminology it officially appears as Pozna plava, which translates as "late blue".
It belongs to the species Prunus domestica L. The fruits are characterized by a dark blue or deep red skin color. The variety is a subject of specialized breeding and cytoembryological research, in particular, its chemical composition and content of phenolic compounds are being studied.
