The plant is a small tree or shrub, often with an elegant cascading crown. The height is usually 2–3 meters; there are compact forms 0.5–1.2 meters tall, suitable for container cultivation. The variety is self-fertile and characterized by winter hardiness, although it may be susceptible to leaf curl in the spring period.
Flowering occurs in March–April and is valued for its decorative quality: the flowers are large, double or semi-double, in shades of bright pink or ruby-pink. Fruiting occurs in the period from July to September. The fruits are sweet and juicy, suitable for fresh consumption, baking, and processing.
