The variety belongs to the Chinese-Japanese plum group and is historically widespread in the Salento region, where it is also known as 'Pappacolu'. The fruits are heart-shaped with a slight point, reach a weight of 50–60 g, and possess a smooth yellow skin with a waxy bloom and a short pedicel.

The fruits are intended for fresh consumption and are distinguished by an unusual aroma reminiscent of a combination of apricot and pineapple. The variety has a short period of optimal maturity; if harvested outside of this window, taste qualities deteriorate. Fruit deformation associated with pollination peculiarities is sometimes observed.
