The rootstock is a hybrid of Prunus persica and Prunus amygdalus (Prunus dulcis). It is widely used for grafting peach, nectarine, almond, and certain plum species, ensuring good compatibility with commercial varieties and high productivity of grafted trees.
The plant possesses high tolerance to calcareous soils, is resistant to chlorosis on sites with an active lime content of up to 12%, and is well adapted to poor and dry stony soils. At the same time, the rootstock is sensitive to waterlogging, heavy soils, root-knot nematodes, and certain soil-borne pathogens.
Due to the hybrid nature of GF 677, it is propagated exclusively by vegetative methods, including in vitro tissue culture and cutting, as seed propagation does not allow for the retention of the mother plant's characteristics.
