The Broksec rootstock provides sweet cherry varieties grafted onto it with high productivity, good fruit quality, and a tendency for earlier entry into fruiting. Trees on this rootstock have a vertical growth habit, with vigor intermediate between the SL64 and Colt rootstocks.

The botanical species Prunus x fontanesiana is a natural hybrid of sweet cherry and Prunus mahaleb. It is a fast-growing tree reaching a height of up to 15 meters, with dark green foliage and small, almost black fruits. The tree is considered quite hardy and is used primarily for ornamental purposes.
